How to scrape coconut back in the old way

Hmmm Mum’s been cooking…. what are they?

Quite common filipino sweets called puto ( the one below ) and kochinta ( hope its spelt this way ) unfortunatly i haven’t been able to find any pics of this.

Yummy! can’t wait to eat them! actually i eat just this one above hihiiihi.

Kochinta has a funny flavour to me … i guess it’s due to the coconut water, taste to know anyway =)

Well after the cooking comes the scraping!

Instead of buying already scraped coconut mum decided to show me how it was made back in the days! ahah

Here’s a picture of the essential but very effective instrument!

As you can see, it’s a sort of stool on which you can sit and the rounded iron spike is actually jagged so that you can

scape the coconut. You hold the shell with two hands and while sitting on the stool you move the shell always

downwards having care to scrape the sides too!

And as you can see from the empty shell it does quite a good job!

Well after all the work is done… food time. Both puto and kochinta are diped in coconut. Yum Yummy!
